What is Copy Defender?

Copy Defender was designed from the ground-up to prevent automated copying (aka scraping) of your valuable website content.

Copy Defender is PHP script that can be installed on any *nix website and requires no database support giving a huge flexibility to the content management systems it can support (Wordpress, Joomla, PHPBB etc. etc.)

Copy Defender examines each incoming new IP requesting a page from your site and runs it through a series of triggers, each of these can allocate a score to that particular IP. Some of the triggers include:

  • Time since last request
  • Total requests
  • Black/Whitelisted IP
  • Known Search Engine IP
  • Known Proxy IP
  • IP from high-risk country

Each time the IP sets off a trigger it accumulates a score and when the IP’s total score reaches a threshold value it can either be redirected or challenged to prove that it actually is a human. If it’s proven to be a robot scraping your content Copy Defender will stop it in it’s tracks…
